Emergency Dentistry FAQs

What should I do if my tooth gets knocked out?

In the event that your tooth gets knocked loose or comes completely dislodged, contact our office immediately. You can stop bleeding using a clean damp cloth and applying slight pressure to the gum.

Try to locate the tooth. If you find the tooth, or pieces of the tooth, only handle them by the crown or top of the tooth. Try to leave any remaining root structure attached to the tooth. You can gently rinse the tooth but do not scrub. Place the tooth in a glass of your own saliva, or in a glass of milk and bring the tooth with you to your emergency dental visit.

Can a lost tooth be saved?

In some cases, a lost tooth can be saved within a few hours of the loss. Be sure to preserve any attached root structure, and only handle the tooth by the crown. Place your lost tooth in milk or your own saliva.

If your tooth cannot be saved, Dr. Gil offers full-service in-house dental implant treatment plans. A dental implant is the most natural way to replace a missing tooth. Dr. Gil can surgically place a dental implant and dental crown to replace your missing tooth.

Why do I have tooth pain?

Tooth pain could be a result of several dental concerns. If you are experiencing intense or shooting tooth pain, contact our Allentown, PA dentist office right away.

Most patients with tooth pain have a dental cavity and will require a dental filling or root canal. Pain may also be the result of a broken filling or dental restoration. An abscess may have formed in rare cases and should be addressed as soon as possible.

What should I do if I broke a dental crown?

NEVER attempt to replace a broken or lost dental restoration on your own. In the event that a dental crown or dental filling breaks or becomes dislodged contact, Dr. Gil, to schedule an appointment to safely and securely restore your dental restoration.
