A Thorough Exam
Next comes the clinical part. Dr. Gil will examine your mouth, paying close attention to the gap where the tooth is missing. We check the health of the surrounding teeth and gums. We also look at your bite to see how your teeth come together and whether shifting has occurred since you lost the tooth.
If you have an old bridge or denture in that spot, we’ll evaluate how it’s holding up and whether it’s affecting your bone health. This gives us a complete picture of what we’re working with.
The CBCT Scan: A 3D Look at Your Jaw
This is where our technology makes a real difference. We use an in-house CBCT scanner to create a detailed 3D image of your jaw, teeth, and nerves. This isn’t a standard dental X-ray. It shows the exact height and density of your jawbone where the implant would go.
That information is critical. If the bone isn’t thick enough to support an implant, we need to know before we start. In some cases, a bone graft can build up the area first. In others, we might recommend a different approach entirely. The CBCT scan lets us plan with precision, so there are no surprises on surgery day.
Talking Through Your Options
Once we have all the information, we sit down with you and talk through what we found. If implants are a good fit, we’ll explain the process step by step:
- How many appointments it takes
- How long healing usually takes
- What you can expect along the way
We’ll also discuss alternatives. If a bridge or partial denture would serve you just as well, we’ll say so. Our goal isn’t to sell you on the most expensive option. It’s to help you make an informed decision that you feel good about.
